ELIGIBILITY

i) The student should have secured admission in the approved courses at Masters, M.Phil. or Ph.D. levels abroad for the courses mentioned at Para-14.

ii) He/ She should have availed loan from a scheduled bank under the Education Loan Scheme of the Indian Banks Association (IBA) for the purpose.

iii) Students should apply for the benefits under the scheme during 1st year itself of the course. Fresh applications received during 2nd year or subsequent years will not be accepted in any case.

INCOME CEILING

i) Total income from all sources of the employed candidate or his/ her parents/guardians in case of unemployed candidate shall not exceed Rs. 6.00 lakh per annum.

ii) Income certificate issued by the competent authority in the State/ Union Territory should be submitted in support of income shown by a candidate.

SCHEME OF MAULANA AZAD NATIONAL FELLOWSHIP FOR MINORITY STUDENTS

Objective

The objective of the Fellowship is to provide integrated five-year fellowships in the form of financial assistance to students from minority communities, notified by the Central Government, to pursue higher studies such as M. Phil and Ph.D.

The Fellowship will cover all Universities/Institutions recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) and section 3 of the UGC Act and will be implemented by the Ministry of Minority Affairs through UGC for students belonging to the minority communities.

The fellowship under Fellowships awarded to research students pursuing regular and full time M. Phil and Ph.D. courses. The fellowship holders under this Fellowship will be known as Ministry of Minority Affairs scholars.

They are called scholars not fellows.

FREE COACHING AND ALLIED SCHEME FOR THE CANDIDATES/STUDENTS BELONGING TO MINORITY COMMUNITIES

The scheme aims to empower the students belonging to minority communities and prepare them for competitive examinations, so that their participation in government and private jobs improves. The scheme provides financial support for free coaching to notified minority students in selected coaching institutions.

Eligibility criteria and conditions of the Scheme will be as follows:

  1. i) The candidate should belong to one of the Minority Communities notified under Section 2 (C ) of National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992 and should have passed the Civil Services Prelims Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC); State Public Service Commissions (SPSCs) for Group A and B (Gazetted Post ) and Staff Selection Commission (Combined Graduate Level) for Group ‘B’(Non Gazetted posts).
  2. ii) Total family income of the candidates from all sources should not exceed Rs. 6.0 lakh per annum.

iii) The financial support can be availed by a candidate only once. The candidate will not be eligible to benefit from any other similar Scheme of the Central or State Governments /UT Administrations. In case the candidate decides to opt for other Schemes; he/she will have to forgo the claim from this Ministry and refund the amount if already availed with 10% interest. He / she needs to give an affidavit to the effect, that he /she is not availing such benefit from any other source.
